MBABANE– REPS Athletics Club, athletes received Adidas running spikes worth E120 000, at Matsapha Police Academy, where police leaders and retired athlete Sgt. Sibusiso Matsenjwa inspired youth through sport and crime prevention initiatives.
Young athletes from the REPS Athletics Club walked away with renewed hope and motivation after receiving Adidas running spikes worth E120 000 during an official handover ceremony held at the Matsapha Police Academy. The donation was facilitated by retired athlete and coach Sgt. Sibusiso Matsenjwa as part of ongoing efforts to empower young athletes and keep youth away from crime through sport.
The sporting equipment was officially received by Deputy National Commissioner Ms. Bonsile Masuku, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mr. Christopher Lukhele, and Assistant Commissioner Mrs. Gcamani Dlamini, who praised the initiative for investing in the future of young people.
For many of the athletes, the donation represented more than just running shoes. It symbolised encouragement, recognition, and belief in their talent and potential. Several athletes said the spikes would help improve their performance during competitions while also motivating them to work harder towards achieving their dreams in athletics.
The athletes also thanked the National Commissioner and the police executive for continuously supporting youth development programmes through sport. They noted that athletics keeps many young people focused, disciplined, and committed to positive lifestyles at a time when some youth face challenges such as drugs, crime, and unemployment.
According to information shared on the Royal Eswatini Police Service Facebook page, the donation forms part of broader crime prevention efforts that use sport as a tool to engage and empower young people. The police service has continued to support sporting activities as a way of promoting discipline, teamwork, healthy living, and social responsibility among youth.
Sgt. Matsenjwa, who once represented Eswatini on international athletics stages, has remained passionate about mentoring young athletes even after retiring from competitive sport. His contribution was praised by both police leadership and athletes as an inspiring example of giving back to the community.
The ceremony ended with smiles, excitement, and a renewed sense of determination among the athletes, who said the support would push them to strive for excellence both on and off the track.
