…Taiwan expects His Majesty King Mswati III visit to Taiwan later this year

MBABANE– A high-level Eswatini delegation led by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Prince Simelane Dlamini, has visited Taiwan for talks aimed at finalising a judicial cooperation agreement that will strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the fight against corruption and digital crime.
The delegation met Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Chia-lung, in Taipei on July 9, where both sides reaffirmed the long-standing diplomatic partnership between Eswatini and Taiwan and pledged to deepen cooperation in the justice sector.
Foreign Minister Lin said the proposed judicial cooperation agreement would enhance collaboration between the two countries, particularly in tackling corruption and emerging digital crimes.
He noted that the agreement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, which he described as being “like family ties.”
Lin said he had personally witnessed the benefits of the two countries’ cooperation during President Lai Ching-te’s visit to Eswatini in May, citing progress in agriculture, education, culture, energy, industrial development, smart healthcare and women’s empowerment.
The Taiwanese minister also expressed his government’s anticipation of His Majesty King Mswati III’s expected visit to Taiwan later this year, saying the visit would further cement the relationship between the two nations.
He highlighted major development projects being undertaken through the partnership, including the planned Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park and a strategic oil reserve facility, which are expected to boost investment opportunities and strengthen Eswatini’s energy security.
Prince Simelane welcomed the opportunity to engage with Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice on the proposed judicial cooperation agreement, saying the discussions would help deepen legal and institutional collaboration between the two countries.
He thanked Taiwan for its continued support towards Eswatini’s national development, describing the relationship as strong and mutually beneficial.
The delegation was also hosted at an official banquet by Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu, who thanked the Kingdom for its unwavering diplomatic support and reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to sharing its development experience with Eswatini.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for 58 years and remain committed to expanding cooperation for the benefit of their citizens.
The latest visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between Eswatini and Taiwan, with judicial cooperation now emerging as another key pillar of the longstanding bilateral relationship.
