MBABANE– The Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) Governing Board is set for a new representative following the resignation of Mashumi A. Shongwe, who has stepped down as a board member effective 29 July 2026.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Security confirmed that Minister Phila Buthelezi has accepted Shongwe’s resignation, which brings his service on the CMAC Governing Board to an end.
Shongwe appointment to the board was through the Federation of Eswatini Trade Unions (FESWATU), which serves as the nominating body for the seat. Following his resignation, FESWATU has committed to submitting a nomination for his replacement through the required procedures.
The ministry said Shongwe made a valuable contribution to the work of CMAC during his time on the board and expressed appreciation for his service.
“ The Ministry of Labour and Social Security wishes its appreciation to Shongwe for his service and contribution to the work of CMAC during his tenure and wishes him well in his professional responsibilities,” the ministry stated.
CMAC remains a key institution in Eswatini’s labour sector, providing conciliation, mediation and arbitration services to assist employers and employees in resolving workplace disputes and promoting harmonious industrial relations.
Through its mandate, CMAC contributes to maintaining peaceful labour relations by offering platforms where parties can address disagreements outside lengthy legal processes.
The Ministry said the public would be informed of further developments regarding the appointment of a new board member once the replacement process has been completed.
The appointment of a new representative is expected to ensure continuity in the important work of the CMAC Governing Board as it continues supporting effective dispute resolution and cooperation between labour stakeholders in the country.
