MANZINI- The Eswatini Nazarene Health Institutions (ENHI) is breaking new ground at Umhlanga 2026 as its Imbali makes a historic debut, bringing together cultural pride and the institution’s commitment to healthcare.
For the first time, ENHI has entered an Imbali regiment for the annual Umhlanga Reed Dance, giving its maidens an opportunity to participate in one of Eswatini’s most significant cultural traditions while the institution continues to uphold its responsibility of serving communities through healthcare.
Umhlanga 2026 commences on Tuesday, August 25, at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence, bringing together thousands of maidens from across the country.
The ENHI Imbali’s debut follows weeks of dedicated preparation, including joint rehearsals with His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) Imbali at the Matsapha Correctional College.
The preparations culminated in an impressive showcase by the ENHI maidens, who demonstrated discipline, confidence, unity and commitment in the presence of senior leadership from both institutions.
ENHI Chief Executive Officer Mazwi Mavuso described the occasion as a proud and historic moment for the institution, saying the debut reflected ENHI’s appreciation of the country’s cultural heritage.
“We are extremely proud to see our Imbali taking part in Umhlanga for the first time. This is a historic moment for ENHI and an opportunity for our institution to embrace and celebrate our culture,” Mavuso said.
Mavuso expressed gratitude to HMCS for allowing the ENHI Imbali to participate in its preparations, saying the partnership had been instrumental in preparing the maidens for their first appearance.
“We sincerely appreciate HMCS for allowing our Imbali to join their preparations. The support and collaboration have been invaluable, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership in future cultural activities,” he said.
The partnership has enabled the two institutions to work together beyond their professional mandates, using culture as a platform to strengthen cooperation, unity and institutional relations.
At the same time, ENHI’s participation carries a unique dimension. As its Imbali takes part in the cultural celebrations, the institution’s medical team remains ready to provide healthcare support, ensuring that its professional responsibilities continue alongside its cultural participation.
This balance between healthcare and culture has given the ENHI debut added significance, demonstrating that the institution can celebrate and support Eswatini’s heritage while remaining focused on its core mission of caring for people.
