MANZINI– Brazilian visitor Luís Fernando Brugnerotto got firsthand taste of Eswatini’s culture, from traditional food to the vibrant dancing at the Umhlanga Reed Dance main arena.
Brugnerotto, who arrived in Eswatini with companions, said he has enjoyed the warm reception from emaSwati and the opportunity to experience the country’s traditions up close.
One of his first encounters with local culture came through traditional cuisine, with the visitor sampling dishes he had not encountered before. “We are very happy to be received here. We have just tasted some of your traditional foods, and I really liked one of them,” he said.
Although he could not remember the name of one of the dishes, Brugnerotto described it positively and said the food had added to his experience of the country.
He also praised the hospitality he had received since arriving, saying: “It is very good. I also appreciate your kindness, and I hope to have a really good time together.”
His visit forms part of the international interest surrounding Umhlanga, with visitors from different countries travelling to Eswatini to experience the annual cultural celebration.
For Brugnerotto, the food was only the beginning. He was looking forward to seeing the maidens showcase their dancing skills at the main arena and experiencing one of the most recognisable parts of the ceremony.
His experience highlights the cultural exchange that takes place during Umhlanga, as international visitors get an opportunity to engage with Eswatini’s traditions, cuisine and people.
From tasting local food to anticipating the dancing at the arena, Brugnerotto’s visit has given him a close-up introduction to Eswatini with plenty more of the celebration still to experience.
