LUDZIDZINI — South African entertainer Sizwe Mdlalose has traded the spotlight for the vibrant colours, rhythm and traditions of Eswatini, embracing the Kingdom’s annual Umhlanga Reed Dance with a level of excitement that has been hard to miss.
The popular musician, MC, actor and fashion designer has been sharing his Umhlanga experience on social media, posting video after video of himself dressed in Siswati traditional attire and proudly immersing himself in the cultural festivities.
Mdlalose, who is famously known for his energetic presence in the Gqom and Amapiano music scenes, has also shared photographs with Imbali, giving his followers a glimpse into his experience at the prestigious cultural celebration.
As he attended the 2026 Umhlanga Reed Dance Main Day at Ludzidzini, the entertainer expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he received from Emaswati.
“Ngiyabonga kakhulu uthando,” Mdlalose said, expressing gratitude for the love and hospitality shown to him during his stay.
The entertainer’s social-media updates have captured more than just his presence at the event. From traditional attire to moments shared with Imbali, his posts reflect his willingness to embrace the culture and celebrate alongside Emaswati.
Mdlalose also described the Swazi people as his aboMalume (uncles), highlighting the strong cultural and familial connections he feels between South Africa and Eswatini.
His colourful presence has added another layer of entertainment to an already vibrant Umhlanga season, as thousands of maidens, spectators and visitors gathered at Ludzidzini to witness the centuries-old cultural celebration.
