MBABANE– His Majesty King Charles III has extended warm congratulations to His Majesty King Mswati III and the people of Eswatini as the Kingdom celebrates its 58th Independence Day, praising the enduring friendship between Eswatini and the United Kingdom and expressing confidence in an increasingly prosperous relationship between the two nations.
In a special message addressed to His Majesty the King, the British monarch said he and his wife, Queen Camilla, were pleased to join emaSwati in marking one of the country’s most important national occasions.
Eswatini attained independence from British colonial rule on September 6, 1968, making this year’s celebration the country’s 58th anniversary as an independent nation.
King Charles III used the occasion not only to congratulate the Kingdom but also to highlight the strong historical and diplomatic bonds that continue to connect Eswatini and the United Kingdom.
He described relations between the two countries as an enduring friendship and close partnership founded on mutual respect, common values and strong people-to-people ties.
The King further highlighted the Commonwealth as an important platform through which Eswatini, the United Kingdom and other member states continue to strengthen cooperation and create opportunities for their citizens.
“Our family of nations remains a source of great strength, fostering understanding, cooperation and opportunity across the world,” King Charles III said.
His message comes as Eswatini continues to strengthen its international partnerships while positioning itself for greater economic development, investment, environmental sustainability and cooperation with countries across the world.
COMMONWEALTH BONDS
King Charles III placed particular emphasis on the role of young people within the Commonwealth, saying its diversity and youthful population remained a source of hope and progress at a time when countries were confronting growing global uncertainty.
He said strong international partnerships had become increasingly important and expressed anticipation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting later this year.
The gathering is expected to provide Commonwealth leaders with an opportunity to discuss common challenges, development priorities and ways of deepening cooperation among member states.
King Charles III said he looked forward to countries coming together and charting a course towards a prosperous future for their citizens.
