MBABANE– Schools across Eswatini will reopen for the third term tomorrow, September 9, 2026, with the Ministry of Education and Training assuring parents and learners that preparations for the new term are on track.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training, Nanikie Mnisi, has reaffirmed that there had been no change to the official school calendar, dismissing social media claims suggesting that new reopening dates had been announced.
Mnisi said learners who reside within school facilities were expected to return today ahead of the official reopening tomorrow.
She further assured the public that there was no crisis surrounding the reopening of schools, noting that government had already started paying Free Primary Education (FPE) grants while the procurement of food for schools was also underway.
“The government has begun paying the Free Primary Education grants, and the procurement of food is ongoing,” Mnisi said.
She explained that the procurement process was expected to be completed by the end of September, after which food would be delivered to schools.
“We hope that by the end of the month, the procurement process will be completed, and the food will be delivered to schools. There is no crisis, as the public has been led to believe,” she stated.
Mnisi also clarified that there had been no communication from authorities indicating that the reopening of schools would be postponed because of the second leg of the annual Umhlanga Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at Mbangweni Royal Residence this weekend.
The clarification is expected to bring certainty to parents, learners and schools following misleading information circulating on social media about the reopening date.
With the official school calendar remaining unchanged and key government processes already underway, learners are expected to report for the start of the third term tomorrow.
