MANZINI – When life becomes uncertain, prayer can become a source of comfort, and Eswatini artist Nkosenhle Mlotsa, known professionally as Nkosy Ash, explores that idea in his latest single, ‘Thandaza’.
Released on September 4, the song places prayer at the centre of its message, encouraging listeners to seek God not only when life is going well, but also when faced with difficult seasons.
‘Thandaza’, which means “pray”, takes a straightforward approach to its subject, using music to reflect on the role faith can play through life’s highs and lows. Rather than presenting prayer solely as a response to hardship, the song speaks to maintaining a connection with God regardless of the circumstances a person may find themselves in.
The message gives the release a reflective quality, moving it beyond the usual themes associated with entertainment and into personal experiences that many listeners can relate to. The single features Nkosi Ash and 9699 and was released under Phando Productions.
For Nkosy Ash, the release represents another chapter in his musical journey, while also giving him an opportunity to communicate a message that is closely tied to faith and perseverance.
The timing of the release also places the artist among a growing number of local musicians using their music to explore themes drawn from everyday life, personal beliefs and experiences.
At the heart of ‘Thandaza’ is a message that requires little interpretation: prayer should not only be remembered when things fall apart. Whether celebrating a good season or navigating a difficult one, Nkosy Ash’s latest offering asks listeners to pause, reflect and thandaza.
