PIGGS PEAK – Piggs Peak is taking a step towards becoming a smarter, more connected town with the installation of a Wi-Fi hotspot in the Central Business District (CBD), a move the Piggs Peak Town Council says will improve digital access for residents, businesses and visitors.
The initiative, currently focused on the CBD, is expected to provide members of the public with easier access to internet services while creating a more digitally friendly environment within the town.
Piggs Peak Town Council Chief Executive Officer Roison Daniel Pave said the Wi-Fi project forms part of the Council’s broader vision of transforming Piggs Peak into a smart town, drawing inspiration from more developed urban centres such as Mbabane.
Pave said the Council does not want the initiative to stop at the CBD, indicating that the Wi-Fi network will eventually be extended to other parts of the town.
> “We want to make Piggs Peak a smart town, more like other towns that are embracing technology,” Pave said.
He said the Council is looking at ways of using technology to improve service delivery and make the town more attractive to residents, businesses and visitors.
The introduction of public Wi-Fi is also expected to benefit young people, entrepreneurs, tourists and businesses that increasingly depend on reliable internet connectivity for communication, learning, marketing and conducting business.
The project comes as Piggs Peak Town Council, under Pave’s leadership, continues to position the town for improved service delivery and urban development. Pave assumed office as the Council’s CEO in January 2026, with the Council highlighting strategic planning, stronger stakeholder engagement and improved service delivery among its priorities.
For Piggs Peak residents, the Wi-Fi rollout could mark the beginning of a broader digital transformation, with the CBD serving as the starting point before connectivity reaches more areas.
As the town looks towards the future, the Council’s smart-town vision could see technology becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life in Piggs Peak.
