MBABANE – The Senate Portfolio Committee of the Prime Minister’s Office has expressed confidence in Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini’s leadership, saying a tour of multimillion-emalangeni projects under his office showed that public funds were being put to good use.
The Senators said the visit had given them an opportunity to see first-hand how government resources were being utilised and assess some of the projects falling under the oversight of the Prime Minister’s Office.
Chairperson of the Senate Portfolio Committee of the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Chief Prince Ngangabani, said they were impressed by what they saw during the tour and believed the Prime Minister was “on the right path”.
The committee was led by the Prime Minister on a tour of selected projects and facilities on Wednesday, including the Oxygen Plant and National Waste Management Plant in Matsapha, as well as a housing project for members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service in Mbabane.
Chief Prince Ngangabani said Senators had previously requested an opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister and gain a better understanding of the operations and responsibilities of his office.
He said the Prime Minister’s Office had eventually responded to their request, allowing them to begin the engagement at the Prime Minister’s Office in Mbabane.
“The Prime Minister explained to us all his departments. This gave us a clear picture as Senators of how the Prime Minister’s Office operates,” he said.
The chairperson said the visit was important because Parliamentarians needed to understand where public funds were being spent rather than relying solely on information presented in Parliament.
He said the Prime Minister’s Office had oversight responsibilities over various departments, making it necessary for the committee to physically visit some of the projects under its purview.
Chief Prince Ngangabani said the tour had also helped Senators separate facts from claims made in Parliament.
“A lot is said in Parliament, some of which is not right, and it ends up influencing emaSwati,” he said.
He said the committee had now been able to see some of the projects for itself and was satisfied with the progress and utilisation of funds.
“We have seen that the Prime Minister is doing his work well. We toured major projects and we were impressed with the way the funds were used,” he said.
One of the projects visited was the National Waste Management Plant in Matsapha, which was commissioned by the Prime Minister in March 2026.
The E52 million incinerator plant was constructed with support from the Global Fund and is intended to strengthen the country’s management and disposal of waste.
The committee also visited the Oxygen Plant in Matsapha, a facility established to ensure a steady and reliable supply of medical oxygen in the Kingdom.
In Mbabane, the Senators toured an under-construction three-storey housing block at the Police Camp. The building comprises 24 one-bedroom units intended for members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service.
The tour formed part of the Senate committee’s oversight responsibilities, allowing Senators to assess projects linked to the Prime Minister’s Office beyond the parliamentary setting.
Prince Ngangabani said the experience had strengthened their appreciation of the work being undertaken by the Prime Minister’s Office.
He maintained that, based on what they had seen, the Prime Minister was moving in the right direction.
“The PM is on the right path,” he said.
