MBANGWENI– Imbali at Mbangweni are registering to vote as the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) uses Umhlanga 2026 to prepare young people for the upcoming elections and educate them about their role in the development of Eswatini.
EBC Communications Officer Mbonisi Bhembe said the Commission is engaging Imbali on what is expected of them as young people and future contributors to the country. The education also focuses on the electoral process, with the Commission preparing eligible Imbali to participate in the upcoming elections.
Bhembe said eligible Imbali and members of the public can now register by carrying their personal identification cards. The registration process uses biometric technology to capture accurate information, helping ensure that the correct data is recorded.
Beyond voter registration, the engagement at Mbangweni they are also encouraging young maidens to understand the positive contribution they can make towards the development of the country.
He also said the Commission wants Imbali to understand their responsibilities and the role they can play in shaping the future of Eswatini. The engagement comes as Imbali from different parts of the country participate in the second leg of Umhlanga at Mbangweni Royal Residence.
By taking the voter registration and civic education programme to the cultural gathering, EBC is able to reach young people while they are participating in one of the country’s major annual events.
The registration opportunity also gives eligible participants an opportunity to take a step towards participating in the electoral process ahead of the upcoming elections. The Commission’s use of biometric technology further places emphasis on the accurate capture of registration information as eligible citizens come forward to register.
EBC is combining voter registration with civic education, while encouraging young people to understand both the electoral process and their broader responsibilities as future contributors to national development.
