MBABANE – Organisations have been encouraged to strengthen their governance, performance, risk and compliance systems by integrating these functions to improve their ability to identify risks, meet compliance requirements and respond to emerging challenges.

This was highlighted during a three-day Governance, Performance, Risk and Compliance (GPRC) workshop held at Hilton Garden Inn from September 15 to 17, 2026, which brought together stakeholders to examine emerging GPRC trends and ways organisations can strengthen their systems.

The discussions highlighted that organisations can no longer rely only on quarterly or annual risk assessments in an environment where risks can change continuously.

Instead, organisations were encouraged to maintain updated risk information, monitor their exposure and regularly assess whether measures put in place to address risks are achieving the desired results.

An integrated approach allows governance, risk management, compliance and performance processes to work together, helping organisations identify changes in their operating environment early and take appropriate action before challenges disrupt their operations.

Business resilience and continuity were also highlighted as important components of effective risk management, with organisations encouraged to develop the capabilities needed to respond and adapt when disruptions occur.

The workshop further emphasised the importance of business continuity plans in helping organisations maintain essential operations during periods of disruption.

Top management was identified as a key driver of successful GPRC implementation, particularly through providing the necessary resources and ensuring that governance, risk and compliance are integrated into the organisation’s operations.

Staff training was also highlighted as important, with employees needing the necessary skills to understand and effectively use systems and processes designed to manage organisational risks and compliance requirements.

The discussions ultimately emphasised the need for organisations to move towards integrated GPRC systems that support continuous monitoring, coordinated decision-making and better preparedness for emerging challenges.
