MANZINI – Eswatini is exploring opportunities to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response through knowledge exchange and specialised training with Taiwan, following a site visit by an Eswatini delegation to the National Fire Agency’s training centre.
The delegation, participating in the World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM), visited the facility to gain insight into the operations of the Taiwan Fire Agency and its approaches to disaster and emergency response at both domestic and international levels.
The visit provided the delegation with practical exposure to advanced technologies used in disaster simulation exercises, as well as live demonstrations of rescue missions. The demonstrations showcased how emergency teams prepare for and respond to disaster scenarios through coordinated operations, technology and specialised rescue techniques.
Eswatini has expressed interest in using the exchange to learn from Taiwan’s experience and explore best practices that could strengthen emergency management and humanitarian assistance.
This also opened opportunities for further cooperation between Eswatini and Taiwan, including exchange learning programmes, specialised training courses in Taiwan and other initiatives focused on disaster preparedness and resilience.
Dr Huan-Chang Hsiao said Taiwan remained open to cooperation and partnerships with WADM member states at multiple levels. The commitment creates opportunities for member states to strengthen their technical knowledge and emergency management capacity through practical exchanges and specialised training.
For Eswatini, the engagement comes as the country seeks to strengthen its capacity to prepare for and respond to emergencies through improved skills, knowledge and international cooperation.
The delegation’s visit therefore provided more than an observation of Taiwan’s emergency response systems, creating a platform for Eswatini to identify practices that could inform its own disaster management efforts.
The exchange further highlighted the role of international partnerships in strengthening disaster preparedness, particularly through sharing technical expertise, training and practical experience.
Eswatini’s participation in the engagement forms part of efforts to build stronger disaster management capacity while developing partnerships that can contribute to national resilience and effective humanitarian response.
