MATSAPHA– The University of Eswatini’s No Hungry Student Project is extending food assistance to needy and vulnerable students who struggle to afford meals, with support from Likusasa Letfu Savings Credit & Cooperative Society.
Likusasa Letfu Savings Credit & Cooperative Society handed over a food consignment to the University of Eswatini on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, in support of the No Hungry Student Project under the Student Affairs Department.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eswatini said the initiative was intended to support students facing difficulties in accessing food while pursuing their academic programmes. The project serves students who are needy and vulnerable, including those who cannot afford even one meal a day.
“The donation would bring relief to students across the university’s three campuses, namely Kwaluseni, Luyengo and Mbabane” he said. The support therefore extends beyond the campus where the handover took place, with students from the three university campuses identified as beneficiaries of the initiative.
He said access to food was an important part of creating a supportive learning environment for students dealing with financial challenges. The university expressed appreciation to Likusasa Letfu for directing its 2026 community outreach efforts towards the No Hungry Student Project.
The cooperative’s support to the university forms part of a three-year community outreach programme through which it has assisted needy and vulnerable people. In 2024, Likusasa Letfu assisted community centre in the Khalangilile community in Luyengo after learning that the household was renting pots for cooking meals. The cooperative provided two-legged pots and groceries.
In 2025, the organisation extended assistance to vulnerable people identified through community nursing students at the Mbabane campus. The support included roofing materials and groceries.
The cooperative also assisted an elderly woman in Mbabane with a wheelchair, blankets and groceries. For 2026, the organisation identified the University of Eswatini’s Student Affairs Department and its No Hungry Student Project as an area requiring support.
The Vice-Chancellor said the donation would provide essential nutrition to beneficiaries while also giving students encouragement as they work towards achieving their academic goals.
The university said the contribution demonstrated the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and stakeholders in supporting students who face challenges during their studies.
The Vice-Chancellor further expressed gratitude to Likusasa Letfu for its contribution, noting that the partnership reflected a shared commitment to the well-being and success of students. The donation is expected to provide food assistance to beneficiaries identified through the Student Affairs Department across Kwaluseni, Luyengo and Mbabane.
The university also encouraged other stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of students and creating an environment in which they can pursue their education despite challenges.
