BUHLENI– Buhleni residents have been urged to take responsibility for their livestock and keep cattle away from the town’s newly constructed roads, amid concerns that roaming animals are damaging infrastructure and undermining ongoing development.
The call was made by Liaison Officer between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Buhleni Royal Kraal, Councillor Ndukuyabo Kunene, who said livestock remains one of the major challenges facing the developing town. He noted that cattle had been a problem both during and after road construction, with animals found roaming on newly constructed surfaces and causing damage.
“One of the biggest challenges is livestock in Buhleni town,” Kunene said.
He appealed to residents to look after their cattle and ensure that they do not roam near the roads, particularly as construction and other developments continue in the town.
Kunene said plans were already being considered to address the livestock challenge, including the relocation of cattle found roaming around Buhleni to the lngwenyama Farm at Mpofu.
He further encouraged residents to embrace the development taking place in Buhleni, saying the town’s transformation was expected to create opportunities for residents to develop their plots and improve their livelihoods.
“As more roads are constructed, there are people’s plots and they will soon commence building and developing the town, which will improve the livelihoods of the locals,” he said.
Meanwhile, Buhleni Town Clerk Gordon Mbuli also raised concern over livestock roaming on the completed roads, saying the matter had been brought to the attention of residents several times.
Mbuli said the newly constructed roads had already changed the appearance of Buhleni and represented a significant step in the town’s development.
“The roads have changed the face of the town,” Mbuli said, describing the infrastructure as an important step towards developing Buhleni.
The appeal comes as Buhleni continues to undergo road and other infrastructure development, with authorities calling for cooperation from residents to protect the new infrastructure and support the town’s transformation.
