NEW YORK, USA – His Majesty King Mswati III had courtesy meeting with United Nation’s Secretary General Antonio Gutteres before he addressed the 81st Session of the United Nation’s General Assembly yesterday.
The King is attending the 81st Session of UNGA under the theme Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all”. He is accompanied by Inkhosikati LaNgangaza, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Pholile Shakantu, Eswatini Ambassador to the UN Thami Dlamini.
The King appealed to the outgoing UN Secretary General for the kingdom’s support in its efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals targets in a financially constrained environment.
His Majesty the King further highlighted the importance of the UN cooperation with the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) as the Kingdom currently chairs the Organ for Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, otherwise known as Organ Troika.
The theme talks to the current global tensions in wars in Europe, the Gulf and Africa and His Majesty the King advocating for regional, continental bodies that responds to these challenges.
In response, the outgoing UN SG reaffirmed the global body’s support and commitment towards inclusive growth that talks to the empowerment of women and youth, human rights and the rule of law. He also stated that they would support an ambitious climate action plan.
