PIGG’S PEAK – The Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development on Friday hosted a Wellness Day at Pigg’s Peak Inkhundla, bringing together officers from the Ministry and various Tinkhundla Centres across the Hhohho Region.

The initiative formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to promoting the health, wellbeing and overall welfare of its officers, recognising that a healthy, informed and empowered workforce is essential to delivering quality services to the nation.

The programme was facilitated by PSHACC Programmes Officer Faith Gina-Sithole, who guided officers through the day’s activities and discussions, which focused on health and HIV awareness as well as Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

During the GBV awareness session, Thanfo Dlamini from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) highlighted the importance of recognising warning signs of abuse and taking action before violence escalates.

Dlamini explained that signs of GBV may include physical injuries, threats, intimidation, controlling behaviour, constant humiliation, isolation from family and friends, emotional abuse and financial control. He encouraged officers to take such warning signs seriously and seek assistance through appropriate support structures.

The REPS representative further emphasised the importance of speaking out and reporting cases of abuse, noting that GBV can affect individuals regardless of where they live or work.

The session provided officers with an opportunity to openly discuss GBV, understand how it can manifest in relationships and workplaces, and learn about possible intervention and support mechanisms.

The Ministry also conducted a Health and HIV Awareness session, during which John Dube sensitised officers on HIV and AIDS prevention. He emphasised informed decision-making, prevention and taking responsibility for one’s health.

On-site HIV testing and counselling services were also provided, encouraging officers to know their status and take proactive steps towards maintaining their health.

The Ministry said the Wellness Day demonstrated its commitment to creating a healthy, informed, safe and supportive working environment for officers serving at Tinkhundla level.

It further noted that investing in the wellbeing of staff is an investment in the quality of public service delivered to the people of Eswatini.

The Ministry extended its appreciation to PSHACC, the Royal Eswatini Police Service and its health partners for their contribution towards making the Wellness Day an informative and impactful engagement.

The Wellness Programme will continue in other regions, extending the initiative to more officers across the country.
