MBABANE – About 750 participants turned Sifundzani Primary School’s annual Rainbow Dash into a colourful celebration of fitness, friendship and community as the school marked its 45th anniversary.
Held under the theme “Blast from the Past!”, the 2026 Rainbow Dash brought together pupils, parents, teachers and members of the wider community for a 5km fun run and walk.
The event was organised by the Sifundzani Primary School Parents Teachers Association (PTA), with Star Paint coming on board as the main sponsor alongside other supporting companies.
According to the PTA, about 750 people participated in this year’s edition, taking to the road in a sea of colour as they completed the 5km route.
The colourful atmosphere was matched by entertainment and prizes, including recognition for the best-dressed participant, giving participants another reason to express themselves while taking part in the fitness activity.
This year’s event carried special meaning for Sifundzani as the school celebrates 45 years since its establishment in 1981.
The school’s official history states that Sifundzani Primary opened in January 1981, initially operating from temporary accommodation before moving to its present site. The school was officially named Sifundzani by the late His Majesty King Sobhuza II in February 1982.
The anniversary theme, “Blast from the Past!”, was reflected throughout the Rainbow Dash branding, which also carries the message “Past Roots • Bright Futures • One Sifundzani.”
The celebration comes as the Rainbow Dash continues a tradition that has become part of the school’s annual activities.
In 2025, the event attracted about 700 participants, according to Times of Eswatini, showing continued interest in the colourful 5km run and walk.
The Rainbow Dash has also previously been linked to the work of the Sifundzani Primary School PTA, including support for school infrastructure, while creating an opportunity for parents, pupils and the wider community to participate together.
For the 750 participants who showed up this year, the event was therefore more than a run.
It was a chance to celebrate 45 years of Sifundzani’s journey, reconnect with its roots and look ahead to the future one colourful step at a time.
