MBABANE – Engineers, architects, town planners, environmentalists and other stakeholders are helping shape a more sustainable and resilient Mbabane as the Municipal Council continues reviewing the Final Draft Town Planning Scheme at Emafini Country Lodge, with the consultation held on Monday, 28 September 2026 to gather technical and environmental input before the plan is finalised.
The engagement forms part of the review of the Mbabane Town Planning Scheme 2016, which provides the framework for guiding development and land-use planning within the city.
The consultation brought together built environment professionals as well as stakeholders from government, statutory bodies, service providers and other sectors to review the final draft and provide input on the future development of Mbabane.
The technical discussions gave professionals an opportunity to share their expertise and identify considerations that can strengthen the planning framework and guide development within the city.
The Eswatini Environment Authority (EEA), which participated in the consultation, emphasised the importance of ensuring that environmental considerations are incorporated into planning and development processes.
According to the EEA, this approach can contribute to a city that is sustainable, resilient and responsive to the needs of its communities.
The authority also welcomed the Municipal Council’s efforts to create space for meaningful stakeholder participation and public review, noting that inclusive consultations allow stakeholders to share technical knowledge, raise environmental considerations and contribute towards shaping the future development of the city.
The consultation therefore gives stakeholders an opportunity to influence the final planning framework before it is completed, helping ensure that future development decisions are informed by both professional expertise and environmental considerations.
