MBABANE— A total of 2 050 homesteads have been connected to potable water through six water supply schemes under the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project Phase II (LUSIP II), bringing a more reliable water supply closer to households and improving access to the essential service.

The connections are part of infrastructure development being implemented through LUSIP II, with the six schemes providing potable water to beneficiaries linked to the project.

Among the beneficiaries are households associated with the Ngcamphalala, Mngometulu, Matsenjwa and Mamba families, who are among communities benefiting from the expanded water infrastructure.

The Mahlabaneni-Gamula Potable Water Supply Scheme has recorded the highest number of beneficiaries at 719, followed by the Lusabeni scheme with 506 beneficiaries and the Phafeni scheme with 502.

The Sinyamantulwa Potable Water Supply Scheme has connected 320 beneficiaries, while Ndzevane has reached 221 and Gangakhulu has connected 97 beneficiaries.

The expansion of potable water infrastructure is expected to make access to water more convenient for households while supporting improved living conditions and healthier communities.

For households, access to potable water means having an essential service closer to home, reducing the difficulties associated with obtaining water and providing a stronger foundation for household wellbeing.

Through LUSIP II, the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE) continues to invest in infrastructure aimed at responding to community needs and improving access to essential services within the project area.

The connection of 2 050 homesteads across six potable water supply schemes marks continued progress in bringing reliable water services closer to households and improving quality of life for beneficiaries.
