MBABANE – Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo has publicly conveyed his sincere apologies to Their Majesties and Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, reaffirming his respect for the nation’s leadership and the values that guide Eswatini.

Nxumalo addressed the recent social media audio clips attributed to him, noting that although he believes his words were misunderstood, he felt it important to take responsibility and express remorse. He explained that some listeners interpreted the statements as threats against the Prime Minister following news that his contract had been revoked, despite it previously being renewed by the Civil Service Commission.

Highlighting his deep regard for national institutions, Nxumalo emphasised that the Prime Minister is appointed by Their Majesties and therefore deserves unwavering respect under Eswatini Law and Customs. He said this understanding motivated his decision to apologise publicly and directly.

Nxumalo shared that he intends to personally visit Their Majesties to deliver his apology in line with tradition. He clarified that his comments were never meant to imply physical harm but to express his readiness to pursue legal channels regarding the revocation of his contract, which he says is currently a matter before the courts.

He added that the remarks were made during a period of poor health. Having just been discharged from hospital after treatment for high blood pressure, Nxumalo explained that the situation unfolded during a tense Cabinet discussion regarding his contract status.

Despite facing personal and professional challenges, Nxumalo affirmed that he remains strong and prepared to address the matter through appropriate legal mechanisms.
