MBABANE – A fierce competition is expected on Saturday when athletes compete to qualify for the National Championships.
The qualifiers competitions will be held on Saturday (April 26, 2025) at a venue yet to be confirmed but highly likely being Mavuso Sports Centre or Somhlolo National Stadium, venues with synthetic track.
The event will feature almost all categories being the youth, juniors and senior athletes and they are set to compete in track and field events. Some of the events they are set to compete in include the famous 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 3 000m and the 5 000m while some of the field events will feature long jump, high jump, triple jump, javelin, shot put and discus among others.
The Eswatini Athletics (AE) urged athletes to register as soon as possible because entries close on Thursday (April 24) and there are no late entries to be accepted.
“The Road to Nationals Starts now. The Youth, Junior and Senior athletes, gear up for the Track and Field Qualifier on April 26, 2025. Entries close Thursday, April 24, 2025,” reads a statement from AE.
Athletes are expected to come in their number to book a spot in the national champions because that is where one proves to be the best in the country.
AE then clarified that youth athletes, under 18 years are those born between 2007 and 2009 while juniors who are under 20 are those born between 2005 and 2006 with seniors born 2004 or earlier.
