MBABANE – National team returnee Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze expressed that it is every player’s dream to represent their country.

The international player, who plays for Tambora United in the Tanzanian Premier League, rejoined the national team after an extended absence and was among the standout performers in the goalless draw against Cameroon on Wednesday evening at Mbombela Stadium, South Africa.

Sikhondze, who has played for all three of the country’s major teams Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders, and Manzini Wanderers, expressed his gratitude to Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic, who called him back after more than five years away from the squad.

Another player called up by Logarusic after a lengthy absence was Felix Badenhorst, formerly of Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers, currently with Royal Leopard.

“It is exhilarating to be back with the team after such a long time away. I would like to thank the coach for granting me this opportunity. It is every player’s dream to represent their country,” he stated.

Sikhondze spoke to journalists following the goalless draw, emphasizing that they adhered to the coach’s instructions during the match against Cameroon, which proved effective.

“We played according to the instructions given. He advised us not to press them high, as they are professionals who can exploit any gaps in our defence. Instead, we focused on congesting the midfield,” he said.

Looking ahead, Sikhondze mentioned their anticipation for Sunday’s match against Mauritius, which will also take place at Mbombela Stadium, with a kick-off at 3 PM.

Meanwhile, fellow international player Justice Figareido remarked that their performance against Cameroon was commendable and that the result has motivated them to strive for an even better outcome against Mauritius on Sunday
