MBABANE – A new, authentic sound is rising within Eswatini’s music industry, bringing a message of vulnerability and inner peace.

Siphosethu Mabuza, popularly known as Black Child, is quickly becoming a household name as she transitions from a passionate choir singer to a recording artist with a profound purpose. Her journey began in the most natural of ways—surrounded by music at home, family gatherings, and in the church. For Black Child, singing was never just a hobby; it was a sanctuary.

“I started singing at a young age, mostly for myself, and over time I realized it was the only time I found inner peace and that feeling is what truly sparked my journey,” she says.

A Foundation of Excellence

Black Child’s vocal foundation was built within the walls of Swazi National High School, where she was a dedicated member of the school choir. Her evolution continued into 2024 when she joined the Limkokwing University Choir, a move that helped her refine her sound.

While the music industry presents challenges like self-doubt and limited resources, Black Child views these hurdles as a ladder for growth. She is currently working with Luveve Records, a rising label she credits for helping her navigate the professional scene.

“What inspired me was the realization that my voice could connect with people. Even though I wouldn’t say it is a career for now, I trust God with it,” she explains.

Authenticity Over Trends

In an era dominated by fast-paced trends, Black Child sets herself apart through deliberate vulnerability. Her music—a fusion of soulful sounds and intentional storytelling—is designed to feel like a conversation rather than a performance.

“I believe what sets me apart is my vulnerability. I’m not afraid to be soft, emotional, or reflective in my music. I focus on authenticity rather than trends. I want my music to feel like a conversation, not just a performance.”

Healing Through Sound

The partnership with Luveve Records has already birthed her latest hit, “I MISS YOU.” For Black Child, the process of creating is just as important as the final product.

“One of my favorite tracks I’ve worked on is the recently released track. Being in that studio with my producer working on it felt like therapy. Those are the kinds of songs I connect to the most—the ones that carry real emotion and truth.”

Looking ahead, the soulful songstress has her sights set on exploring deep cultural sounds. Driven by the support of her family, friends, and a deep-seated faith, she aims to build a presence that goes beyond entertainment.

“In the future, I plan to release more original music and build a stronger presence. I want to grow into an artist whose music not only entertains but heals, inspires, and also promotes culture and heritage.”
