MBABANE- The Eswatini International Comedy Festival (ECOFEST) is gearing up for an exciting return, with the talented Boldwin Bals headlining the event, Set for September 26, 2025.
This festival promises an evening of laughter and entertainment, showcasing both local and international comedic stars. Audiences can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with humor and creativity, making it a must-attend event for comedy lovers.
Boldwin Bals isn’t just any comedian; he’s a powerhouse. Starting his comedy journey in 2016 with an impromptu open mic set, he has since evolved into one of Botswana’s most prominent stand-up stars. With nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Boldwin has graced major stages and even co-founded the Gaborone Comedy Club. His sharp wit and vibrant delivery ensure audiences are in for an electrifying performance, filled with jokes that hit home and laughter that echoes long after the show ends.
ECOFEST was founded by the charismatic Bonginkosi Dlamini, affectionately known as Dr. Shakes. His vision for the festival is clear: to elevate local and emerging artists while showcasing the rich tapestry of humor from across Southern Africa. “This year, 2025 marks the second edition of ECOFEST, and we’re determined to make it even bigger and better than before,” he passionately expressed.
One of the most thrilling additions this year is the comedy search aimed at unearthing local talent from a university in the country. This initiative will grant a selected student comedian the incredible opportunity to share the stage with internationally acclaimed acts. Dlamini emphasizes, “We want to give our local comedians a platform to shine alongside established performers. It’s all about creating opportunities and fostering growth in our comedy scene.”
ECOFEST 2025 will feature an exciting lineup of comedic acts from various countries, including China, Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, and of course, Eswatini. Dlamini promises that this year’s festival will be “bigger, better, and bolder than ever.” He assures us that if you thought last year was fantastic, this year’s festival will be a comedy extravaganza filled with humor, stand-up brilliance, and a lively atmosphere.

As the excitement builds, pre-sale tickets will be up for grabs at E150, while tickets purchased at the gate will be E200.
