BULEMBU– For many residents in Bulembu, electricity is part of everyday life, from lighting homes to running small businesses. This made a recent engagement on proposed tariff changes more than just a meeting, but a chance for the community to be heard.
Residents gathered as the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority engaged them on a proposed 13 percent increase in electricity tariffs, from E2.69 per kilowatt-hour to E3.04 per kilowatt-hour.
According to information sourced from the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority Facebook page, the visit aimed to create space for dialogue and public participation. “Bulembu community, we heard you! We visited Bulembu to discuss the proposed 13% electricity tariff increase,” the Authority stated.
The Authority further explained that the proposed adjustment is meant “to cover costs of purchasing electricity from EEC,” highlighting the need to sustain supply while engaging the public in the process.
For residents, the meeting was an opportunity to better understand how such decisions are made. While some shared concerns about rising costs, others welcomed the platform, saying it allowed them to ask questions and be part of the conversation.
Reinforcing its approach, the Authority stated, “Your voice matters! We are committed to transparency and fairness in our decision-making process,” encouraging continued public input.
As consultations continue, the engagement in Bulembu reflects a growing effort to involve communities in decisions that affect their daily lives, turning policy discussions into shared understanding and participation.
