LOBAMBA – Civil servants have been urged to improve the services they provide to the people.

His Majesty King Mswati III made this call on January 31, 2025, while delivering the Speech from the Throne in the House of Assembly during the opening of the Second Session of the 12th Parliament. Concluding his speech, the King emphasized that the transformation he had declared must be put into action by the civil service through enhanced efficiency in serving the people.

“Nine bekunene, I wish to conclude with a reminder of the national call of ‘nkwe’ from Sibaya. This requires us to commit and reaffirm that the civil service exists to serve the nation, not to be served by the nation,” said the King.

He stressed that this meant public servants should make every effort to provide essential services across all four regions, helping the nation realize the transformation he had declared for this year. According to His Majesty, the journey to prosperity would be made possible through national unity.

Following this, he urged all those attending the event, as well as those watching remotely, to stand and pray.

“At this juncture, may we all rise, and I invite those following these proceedings from their respective locations to repeat after me as we commit to the following prayer.”

The King then led the prayer, which was repeated by those in attendance:

Lord;

I am blind without Your leadership,
Incompetent without Your direction,
Insufficient without Your instructions,
Incapable without Your anointing.

Amen.

After the prayer, the King expressed optimism, stating that Emaswati could achieve success if they worked together. He then officially opened the Second Session of the 12th Parliament.

“It is now my singular honour to declare the Second Session of the 12th Parliament officially opened under my hand,” he proclaimed.
