MANZINI– In the dynamic world of music, every musician has a compelling story, and for Njabulo Motsa, better known as Cheezy, his music journey is nothing short of inspiring.
Born and raised in Fair View, this talented artist found his passion for music in the heart of the hood, where the beats of life shaped his sound. Influenced heavily by the rhythms of Nasty C, he transformed admiration into ambition and set out to carve his own path in the music scene.
Cheezy recalls, “I kinda liked Nasty C’s music, listened to him a lot, then ended up wanting to be like him.” This desire led him to perform at popular local venues like Bhunya Hall, Malkerns, and Mfanyana Hall, where he quickly became a crowd favorite. “The crowd went crazy for me,” he says, reflecting on those electrifying moments that fueled his passion. While initially trying to mirror his idol, Cheezy soon realized the importance of authenticity. “I wanted my style too,” he explains, emphasizing his journey towards finding a unique voice in a saturated industry.
Determined to master his craft, Cheezy dove into the world of songwriting, eager to learn the ins and outs of music production. However, the online tutorials didn’t always resonate with him. “I even thought of quitting until I tried my own way,” he admits. This pivotal moment led to the creation of “Ice on My Wrist,” a track featuring Lil Tessia that showcased his lyrical fire and creativity. Following this success, he released “Dali Nguwe,” a heartfelt ode to love and appreciation. “This song is more about praising one’s partner,” he shares, capturing the essence of his personal experiences and emotions.
The road to success hasn’t been smooth for Cheezy. “I faced many challenges: no recording fees, finding gigs, and promoting my music,” he reveals. Despite the obstacles, his resilience shines through. Using downloaded beats due to budget constraints, he continues to produce music that speaks to his journey. “I’m still pushing because I’m in love with the music thing. My dream is based there,” he states, a testament to his unwavering dedication. With a diverse sound that includes Trap, Afropop, and a desire to explore Amapiano, he’s not just following trends—he’s setting them.
What makes Cheezy stand out in the crowded music landscape is his distinctive style. “No other artist is like me,” he proudly claims. His innovative approach to lyrics and vocal delivery sets him apart, ensuring that each song is a reflection of his authenticity and creativity. Currently, he’s cooking up something special: a love song featuring Phathi Zibs. “I’m not sure of the dropping date and genre yet, but keep your heads up. I’m sure you will enjoy it!” he teases, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what’s next.
As he continues to gain traction on platforms like YouTube, Cheezy is on the brink of something big. His journey resonates with many aspiring artists, showcasing the blend of struggle, passion, and triumph.
