MBABANE – Sending money from town to a rural homestead could soon become less stressful for emaSwati, as DeltaPay introduces instant transfers through the Eswatini Payment Switch, enabling users to send money to customers of participating banks and digital wallets within seconds, including on weekends and public holidays.
Whether it is a daughter sending grocery money to her grandmother, a parent supporting a child with transport costs or a small business owner paying for stock, the new service aims to make everyday financial transactions faster, simpler and more convenient.
With the service now live on the Eswatini Payment Switch (EPS), DeltaPay users can transfer funds across participating financial service providers without having to rely on traditional settlement timelines that may delay access to money.
The EPS is a national payment system deployed by the Central Bank of Eswatini to connect banks and mobile wallets, allowing participating providers to facilitate transactions across their respective platforms.
For ordinary emaSwati, this means that supporting family members, paying suppliers and handling urgent financial needs could become easier, regardless of the time or day.
A FEW TAPS TO SEND MONEY
Using the service is designed to be straightforward. DeltaPay users can open the application, select Send and then choose Fast Transfer.
They can select the recipient’s bank or digital wallet, enter the appropriate account number or mobile phone number, specify the amount and confirm the transaction details before completing the transfer.
According to DeltaPay, transfers are completed within seconds, offering customers access to a faster way of moving money between participating providers.
The service is available around the clock, including weekends and public holidays, making it particularly useful when financial assistance is needed outside normal banking hours.
For small businesses, faster transfers could also help reduce delays when paying suppliers or purchasing stock. Customers and traders may spend less time waiting for payments to reflect, allowing them to focus on their daily activities.
REDUCING THE NEED FOR CASH
Beyond speed and convenience, the service is intended to reduce the need for people to withdraw cash from one provider before depositing it into another account.
This could help simplify transactions, reduce unnecessary trips and limit the inconvenience associated with handling physical money.
DeltaPay also says the service offers greater protection against fraudulent proof-of-payment receipts, a concern for individuals and businesses that depend on payment confirmations before releasing goods or providing services.
However, users should continue verifying transactions through their own accounts or official payment confirmations rather than relying solely on screenshots or receipts presented by another person.
MAKING DIGITAL PAYMENTS MORE ACCESSIBLE
The launch reflects a broader push towards more accessible digital financial services, particularly for people who regularly send and receive money across different parts of the country.
For families separated by work, education or other commitments, the ability to transfer funds quickly can help maintain essential financial support without unnecessary delays.
DeltaPay chief executive officer Adrian Koch said the service was designed around the everyday needs of customers.
“Payments should work around people’s lives, not the other way around,” Koch said.
“If someone needs to support their family, pay a driver, or keep a small business moving, they should be able to do it instantly. That is why this step matters for communities across Eswatini.”
His remarks highlight the company’s focus on making digital payments more practical for households, individuals and businesses that depend on reliable money transfers.
BUILDING ON DELTAPAY’S GROWTH
The integration with the EPS follows DeltaPay’s full licence milestone and forms part of its broader plans to expand its presence in Eswatini’s digital payments market.
The company has also indicated plans involving merchant services, cashback offerings and major partnerships expected in the future.
For customers interested in using the service, DeltaPay advises them to download or update the application to access Fast Transfer.
While the new feature promises greater convenience, its practical impact will depend on access to digital financial services, participation by financial providers and customers’ ability to use the technology safely.
Ultimately, the introduction of instant transfers offers another option for emaSwati looking to move money more efficiently. From supporting relatives in rural communities to keeping small businesses running, the goal is to bring financial transactions closer to the pace of everyday life.
