MBABANE – Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Thulisile Dladla has expressed her admiration for the creativity and dedication demonstrated by local artists in addressing social welfare issues through the production of the film “Mahlaba: The Street Kid.”
Dladla said this on March 20, 2025 when she was attending the film’s unveiling at Julios Cinema in Manzini, which is scheduled for release next month (May 2025).
The unveiling of the film was also attended by the Minister of Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, Minister for Tourism, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Muzi Bongani Nzima, former Deputy Prime Minister, Themba Masuku, Principal Secretary, Siboniso Nkambule, Under Makhosi Simelane, and other distinguished guests.
The film portrays a compelling story of a young man who was abandoned by his mother at birth and raised by his grandmother. He left school to search for his biological mother in town, where he fell into the wrong hands of street gangsters.
“Mahlaba: The Street Kid” is directed by Zakhele Mabuza and features local artists as well as South African artists such as Muzi Mathabela, Hamilton Dhlamini, Sello Maake kaNcube, Lindelwa Mafa, Nxobile Mavuso, Setsabile Masina, and Nhlanhla Shelembe. It was produced by Shelembe Aphiwe Production and Brotherwood Studios.
