MBABANE – In a momentous ceremony, the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs presented a remarkable E190,000 to various athletes for their podium performances at recent regional competitions.
Among the recipients were swimmers, athletes, a boxer, and the men’s netball team. The incentives were awarded by Minister Bongani Nzima on Monday at the ministry’s offices.
Minister Nzima articulated that, in accordance with national policy, athletes who secured gold medals would receive E20 000, those achieving silver medals would be awarded E10 000, and those winning bronze medals would receive E5 000.

He highlighted that this initiative reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering sporting excellence within the country.
“It is my pleasure to partake in this event as we honour the outstanding performances of our national champions, who recently represented our nation in international competitions in netball, swimming, boxing, and athletics relays,” stated the Minister.
Nzima emphasised that the rewards being announced are in alignment with the National Rewards Incentive Programme as delineated in the National Sports Policy. This policy stipulates that athletes who represent the country on international stages and attain medals shall be duly recognised with rewards.
He further noted that these cash incentives serve as immediate motivation for their exemplary representation of Eswatini. “It is crucial to acknowledge that the athletes we are recognising today achieved these accolades at regional championships,” he added.
“As the Ministry of Sports, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our champions. Your achievements have not only brought home medals but have also elevated the Eswatini flag, showcasing our nation’s potential to the global community,” he concluded.
