LOBAMBA – A resounding “Bayethe wena WaPhakathi” echoed through the House of Assembly as His Majesty King Mswati III announced an increase in elderly and disability grants.
For a moment, legislators seated in the gallery could not contain their joy as they marveled at the King’s address when he announced the grant increase.
The King stated that the increase is aimed at supporting the most vulnerable members of society.
He revealed this development during the official opening of the 2nd Session of the 12th Parliament, emphasizing the importance of social protection.
The King acknowledged the economic pressures faced by elderly citizens, particularly in light of rising inflation. “Due to inflationary issues and the burden often experienced by our elderly, their grants will be increased in the coming fiscal year,” he declared.
In addition to financial support, the government is working closely with private sector partners to provide affordable housing solutions for vulnerable populations. Efforts are also underway to trace and support children who have been abandoned or neglected by their families.
As part of Eswatini’s broader social welfare initiatives, measures are being implemented to prevent the emergence of informal settlements and improve living standards for those in need.
The grant increase is expected to alleviate financial hardship and enhance the quality of life for thousands of elderly and disabled citizens across the country.
