MBABANE – Music lovers across Eswatini are being treated to an exciting new track from the rising trio Emagagu.

The group has just dropped their latest release, titled ‘Kwekugcina’, a vibrant Afro-pop anthem that promises to resonate with audiences throughout December and beyond.

Known for their ability to blend African rhythms with modern sounds, Emagagu’s latest track is a reflection of both their musical evolution and their keen understanding of the social issues that shape their community.

Born Percy P Thwala, a core member of Emagagu, delved into the meaning behind ‘Kwekugcina’ and what inspired the song’s creation. According to the artist the song addresses a very relatable situation many couples face during the festive season. The track tells the story of a wife who becomes frustrated and suspicious when her husband spends more time at the local tavern or bar, drinking with his friends, rather than being at home with her. Over time, her suspicions grow, and she begins to wonder if her husband is being unfaithful.

However, Thwala explained that the song is more than just a tale of marital conflict. The song conveys a deeper message about the pressures faced by men, especially during the busy, demanding months leading up to the holidays. “The message is that men, in general, spend most of the year hustling and working hard to provide for their families,” Thwala said. “During the festive season, when they finally have some time off, they seek a space to unwind and clear their minds. It’s not necessarily about cheating, but rather about having the freedom to relax, reflect, and find solutions to the challenges ahead.”

While the song’s narrative explores the complexities of relationships, Percy emphasized that it was not intended to accuse men or undermine their responsibilities. Instead, the song calls for a deeper understanding and appreciation of how both men and women can navigate the pressures of daily life while maintaining a healthy relationship. “It’s about balance,” Percy added. “Sometimes, a little space and fun are all it takes for a person to think clearly and come back refreshed.”

Produced by the talented Tus Mvuleni, the song fuses Afro-pop with elements of African trap, creating a dynamic and catchy beat that is set to dominate playlists. “Tus Mvuleni sent us the beat on the same day, and we immediately knew we had something special Thwala recalled. “We worked together in the studio, writing the lyrics and fine-tuning the track. It has the signature Afro-pop sound but also incorporates some trap vibes that make it feel fresh and modern.”
