MBABANE – The Emlalatini Development Centre (EDC) has officially launched an e-learning centre at Dvokolwako, located within the Mkhiweni Constituency in the Manzini Region.
The launch, which took place on 28 March 2025, was attended by several dignitaries, including Nanikie Mnisi, the Under Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Education and Training, and Nhlanhlalenhle Mtsetfwa, the President of the Association of People with Visual Impairments in Eswatini.
Nontsikelelo Tfwala, the spokesperson for EDC, explained that the new e-learning centre aims to enhance career opportunities for those pursuing technical and vocational education and training (TVET). She emphasised that the centre would facilitate career advancement through technology-enabled learning, making education more accessible to a broader audience.
Tfwala highlighted that the e-learning centre would also play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide that exists between rural and urban learners associated with EDC. She noted that learners would benefit from flexible learning opportunities and experiences that are often not available in traditional settings.
The centre is expected to increase access to open educational resources (OERs), reduce educational costs, and bring education directly to the community through online learning platforms.Tfwala further mentioned that Dvokolwako was selected for the launch because it had previously served as a teaching centre for EDC learners.
She stated that the community was eager to collaborate with Emlalatini to establish the e-learning centre, which was one of the nine centres visited by EDC. In closing, Tfwala announced that EDC plans to establish additional learning centres within the next three months, further expanding educational opportunities across the region.
