MBABANE– The fast-growing community of Mpolonjeni, located just outside the capital, is set to benefit from a major development after the chiefdom officially allocated land to Government for the construction of a fully-fledged police station.
The announcement was made on Sunday, 23 November 2025, during the End-of-Year Thanksgiving Prayer Service hosted at the Mpolonjeni Umphakatsi. Motshane Member of Parliament, Wilton Nkambule, revealed the milestone in the presence of senior government representatives, including the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Mkhonta-Simelane.
Mkhonta-Simelane was standing in for Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, who was unable to attend the event as he is currently representing His Majesty King Mswati III and the Kingdom of Eswatini at the AU-EU Summit in Angola. Addressing the gathering, MP Nkambule highlighted the significance of the chiefdom’s contribution and requested that the minister convey the message directly to the prime minister.
“I am happy to announce to everyone—especially to the PM’s representative—that the Mpolonjeni Umphakatsi has identified a piece of land to be used by Government to construct a police station,” Nkambule declared. “What is even more encouraging is that police affairs fall directly under the Prime Minister’s Office, so we believe this matter will receive the urgency it deserves.”
For years, the area has relied on a small police post. The allocation of land for a full police station has therefore been warmly welcomed as a meaningful step towards bolstering safety, law enforcement, and community security in the rapidly developing chiefdom.
Minister Mkhonta-Simelane assured residents that she would faithfully pass the message to the prime minister. Speaking on behalf of Government, she encouraged the community to continue offering spiritual support for national developmental efforts.
She called on residents to “always pray for Government whenever it embarks on development projects—whether nationally, regionally, constituency-based, or even at chiefdom level”. She also appealed for prayers that Eswatini might continue to attract credible, well-intentioned investors from across the world, so that more development projects can be fully funded and delivered smoothly for the benefit of the entire nation.
The prayer service was also attended by Hhohho Regional Administrator, Princess Tsandzile, who commended the ruling Dube dynasty in Mpolonjeni for upholding the example set by Their Majesties. She noted that the tradition of holding prayer services at the beginning and end of each year aligns with Their Majesties’ vision of expressing gratitude to God for His guidance and blessings.
Mpolonjeni Chief Petros Dube extended his appreciation to all invited guests for their participation, noting that their presence enhanced the significance of the event. He also thanked local residents for attending in large numbers and encouraged churches in the community to ensure that such prayer gatherings continue to thrive.
With the chiefdom’s proactive gesture and Government’s commitment to supporting development initiatives, the forthcoming police station marks a promising chapter for Mpolonjeni and its quest for improved safety, service delivery, and progress. Mpolonjeni is one of the three chiefdoms that are under Motshane Constituency (Inkhundla). The two other chiefdoms are Kupheleni and Nduma (Motshane).
