MBABANE – Eswatini continues to shine as it has been ranked in the 20th position in Sub-Saharan Africa for being one of the region’s most peaceful countries, according to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025. On the global stage, the Kingdom secured the 99th spot out of 163 nations, with an overall score of 2.094.
A Testament to National Stability
Despite regional challenges such as political unrest, terrorism, and external conflicts, Eswatini has managed to uphold a remarkable level of calm and safety. The country’s performance reflects a commitment to peace, dialogue, and unity, outshining many larger economies with greater resources.
Sub-Saharan Africa in Perspective
The broader Sub-Saharan Africa region saw a modest deterioration in peacefulness, with terrorism and political unrest in the Sahel dragging down averages. Yet Eswatini’s stability stands out as a reminder of what is possible when leadership and citizens alike prioritize peace and progress.
Building Peace Through Tradition and Modernity
Observers note that Eswatini’s unique blend of traditional governance, rooted in the monarchy and cultural cohesion, combined with ongoing efforts to modernize institutions, has played a key role in sustaining harmony. This balance fosters resilience in the face of global uncertainties—from economic pressures to cross-border conflicts, that continue to destabilize many nations.
A Positive Path Forward
As the Kingdom advances into its digital transformation era, the GPI ranking offers more than just an international scorecard. It is a validation of Eswatini’s efforts to safeguard its people while opening doors for investment, tourism, and regional collaboration. In a time when peace is increasingly scarce, Eswatini’s journey affirms that small nations can carry a powerful message: stability is the cornerstone of prosperity.
