MBABANE – All eyes will be on Caritas in the Manzini region this Friday, 20th June 2025, as the highly anticipated Eswatini Schools Chess Finals take center stage. The championships are expected to bring together the sharpest young minds from across the country, battling it out in a test of strategy, wit, and resilience.
This year’s tournament features three fiercely contested sections which are the Open Section, Under 16s, and Schools Girls Teams. Each category boasts eight competitive schools, all eager to claim the prestigious titles and showcase their chess mastery.
In the Open Section, schools such as Hill Side, Evelyn High, and Manzini Central will face off against strong contenders including Nsongweni High and Ekuvinjelweni High. These teams have demonstrated exceptional skill throughout the season and are ready to engage in intense matches.
The Under 16 category mirrors much of the Open lineup, with Hill Side, Evelyn Baring High, and Manzini Central again leading the charge alongside Nyamane High and Mabhesane High. This section promises to be a thrilling display of emerging talent, as the younger generation vies for top honors.
The Schools Girls Teams section highlights the growing prominence of female players in Eswatini’s chess scene. St Theresa’s High, Evelyn High, and Ekuvinjelweni High are among the contenders, with Hill Side and Mpopota High also bringing strong squads. Their participation shows the inclusive spirit and expanding reach of the sport.
