MBABANE – In a world increasingly driven by clean energy, Eswatini is not waiting on the sidelines.

At this year’s Africa Energy Week, Minister Prince Lonkhokhela stepped confidently into high-level talks, carrying with him a bold national vision: universal access to electricity by 2030.

It was more than a conference, it was a mission. From sunrise meetings to evening strategy sessions, the Minister met with global energy leaders committed to transforming Eswatini’s power landscape. He sat down with InnoVent, the company developing the 10 MW solar plant in Nsoko, and with Sturdee Energy, which is spearheading the 30 MW projects in Balekane and Ngwenya. At the heart of these discussions was urgency, getting these projects across the finish line as soon as possible to meet growing national energy needs.

Beyond these strategic talks, the Minister attracted fresh interest from international investors eager to explore opportunities in Eswatini’s power, mining, and fuel production sectors. Each conversation sparked new possibilities, and Prince Lonkhokhela committed to maintaining momentum through continued dialogue with key government stakeholders.

A milestone moment came in his meeting with the World Bank’s Regional Energy Manager. Together, they unpacked the ASCENT project, an ambitious program designed to accelerate electricity access across the Kingdom. Their exchange extended into discussions about future tariff strategies and how various energy sources can impact affordability, with the World Bank offering to provide technical assessments that will shape smart, sustainable investment decisions.

With committed partners and visionary leadership, Eswatini is taking confident steps toward a future where every home, school, and business is powered. The journey to 100% energy access is underway, and the world is watching.
