ESWATINI SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH PALAZZO HOTEL TO OPERATE ICC& FISH

DUBAI, UAE –  It has been signed and sealed but is yet to be configured.

The Kingdom of Eswatini has taken a significant step towards boosting its tourism sector by signing an agreement with Palazzo Hospitality company, which operates the Palazzo Versace Hotels, to operate the International Convention Centre and Five-Star Hotel (ICC & FISH).

The Minister for Tourism Jane Mkhonta signed on behalf of Eswatini, while the Deputy Managing Director of Palazzo Hospitality Baraa Khawash signed on behalf of the company. The signing was held at the Palazzo Versace Hotel in Dubai on Wednesday.

The move comes after a rigorous selection process, with Palazzo Hotel emerging as the top candidate.

In an interview, the Minister for Tourism highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating that this agreement marks the first phase of the collaboration with Palazzo Hospitality, which has been chosen as the operator of the ICC & FISH.

The minister outlined the thoroughness of the selection process, explaining that they (operators) were identified after a vigorous process, from which they emerged on top of a set standard assessment criteria.

Palazzo Versace Hotel’s impressive track record played a crucial role in their selection.

“Some of the standout features of the hotel are their history with the flagship hotel in Dubai,” said the minister.

She further added that the government has been impressed by their sustainability record over many years, their ability to maintain their high standard, their good financial record, their good customer service, and the quality maintenance of their infrastructure over the years.

Under the agreement, Palazzo Hospitality will be responsible for managing the hotel on behalf of the government.

The minister clarified that since the hotel is ours, they are coming in to run it on our behalf.

While the specific details of the contract are still being finalised, the agreement signifies a commitment from both parties to elevate Eswatini’s tourism offering, she explained.

The focus now shifts to the completion of the ICC FISH. The minister explained that existing timelines are those regarding contract drafting agreements and signing while the ICC and FISH are being completed.

“The government hopes to see the project completed before the end of the year, marking a significant milestone in Eswatini’s efforts to attract international visitors and host major events,” said the minister.
