MBABANE – Former Minister of Tourism Macford Sibandze, has added another feather to his cap by graduating with distinction with a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA).
The graduation ceremony occurred on Saturday, November 14, 2024, in Newcastle, South Africa.
Sibandze, who is also a former Manzini North Member of Parliament, enrolled in the MPA program at the ICOF College of Professional Management (UK) in 2022, specializing in Rural Development, Leadership, and Governance.
Reflecting on his studies, Sibandze emphasized his focus on addressing the disparities between rural and urban areas, noting the challenges rural communities face even in developed countries.
“With this degree, I aim to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas, contributing to community upliftment,” said Sibandze.
He continued: “Development should ensure that rural areas have the same opportunities as cities, reducing the need for migration.”
Sibandze’s academic journey has been remarkable. He earned a BA in Dramatic Arts from Wits University, where he received a Merit Award in Media Studies, and later completed a Master’s in Political Studies at the same institution. He has now set his sights on pursuing a PhD by 2027, continuing his commitment to personal and professional growth.
Despite acknowledging that education is sometimes devalued, Sibandze passionately advocates for its transformative power. “Education gives you bargaining power, the ability to reinvent yourself, and opportunities to inspire others. It’s not just about self-growth but empowering generations to rise above challenges,” he shared.
He also stressed the importance of having a fallback plan, particularly for those in unpredictable careers such as politics, sports, and the arts. “Fame has an expiry date, but education is a permanent asset. It has transformed my life in ways I couldn’t imagine,” said Sibandze.
Sibandze expressed deep gratitude to his family, lecturers, and God for their unwavering support throughout his journey. He credited his wife, Lopez, and his children for their emotional and financial backing, acknowledging their pivotal role in his success.
“As I celebrate this milestone, I remain committed to using my knowledge to inspire others and contribute meaningfully to society,” concluded Sibandze.
This achievement marks yet another milestone in Sibandze’s illustrious career and serves as a powerful testament to the enduring value of education and perseverance.
