MBABANE – In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Girls Evolution Club at Nkwalini is hosting an empowering event on May 10, 2025, at Nkwalini Primary School.
Themed “Building a Growth Mindset for Mental Strength,” the event will focus on equipping young girls with the tools to understand and manage their mental and emotional well-being.
Founded under the I Am My Sister’s Keeper Foundation, the Girls Evolution Club provides a safe and supportive space where girls engage in meaningful discussions on social issues, emotional growth, and self-empowerment. Each month, the club highlights a different topic designed to promote personal development and emotional resilience.
“This month, we chose to focus on mental health because May is Mental Health Awareness Month,” said founder Gugu Mamba. “We want the girls to become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, and to learn how to manage stress and emotional challenges in a healthy way.”
The guest speaker for the session, Smangaliso Gama, a trained Psychosocial Counsellor, expressed her passion for the initiative:
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak at this event. I’m excited to share insights about developing a growth mind-set and building mental strength. My goal is to help the girls understand how to overcome obstacles with resilience and a positive mind-set.”
At the heart of the event is the concept of the growth mind-set—the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence. “Having a growth mind-set means not giving up when things get hard,” Mamba explained. “These girls may be young, but they’re already facing real challenges. We want to give them the mind-set and tools to thrive.”
The upcoming event promises to be not only educational but also uplifting. Attendees will participate in discussions and activities that reinforce mental wellness, emotional intelligence, and the value of perseverance. Most importantly, the session will provide a safe, inclusive space for young girls to express themselves and build confidence.
With a warm call to action—“Bring Your Girlies!”—the Girls Evolution Club hopes to reach even more young minds and continue nurturing a new generation of strong, emotionally aware, and empowered women.
