MBABANE – Government has assured the nation that service will continue to be delivered according to expectations at Eswatini Med (formerly Swazi Med).
This is despite the fact that there is an impasse that is ongoing within the company, concerning particularly the board members. Because of this, Government, through the Ministry of Health, has allayed fears that could come from the public, concerning the future of the company.
Government has allayed the fears after it consulted with the board of directors of Eswatini Med (which is formally known as Eswatini Medical Aid Fund). According to a statement issued by acting Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, Government has been assured that the Eswatini Med is working around the clock to resolve any differences that could be taking place within the organisation.
The membership of the organisation, according to the statement, will not be affected. The board of the organisation will make sure of that. This has been assured by the board, in particular those that are currently receiving treatment, with the aid of this fund. The statement further mentioned that the board also assured Government that updates will be given to the nation once all the available structures had been fully exhausted.
Government has promised to continue to monitor the situation.
During the press conference that was held by the board members of Eswatini Med at Hilton Garden Inn, Mbabane on March 20, 2025, the interim Board Chairperson Bheki Maziya announced that Sammy Dlamini, who was the board chairman, had been removed from the position.
“We wish to confirm that Sammy Dlamini, who previously served as the chairman of the Board has been removed from the position following a vote of no confidence in his leadership. The Board has also resolved to appoint Bheki Maziya as the Interim Chairman, a position he will hold until a substantive chairman is appointed by the Board,” Maziya said during the press conference.
Maziya also mentioned that the Board suspended Simelane, pending an investigation into alleged misconduct. Nokuthula Dlamini has been appointed as Acting Principal Officer with immediate effect. However, the press conference had to be cut short, as it was stopped by police officers.
