Mbabane – Government has reassured the nation that the reported E40 million security upgrades at the Prime Minister’s residence and offices will be implemented at zero cost to taxpayers.
In a press statement released on Monday, Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo emphasized that the project is fully funded by external donors, not the national purse.
“Government wishes to assure emaSwati that the taxpayer will not spend a cent on this project,” Nxumalo stated, adding that the upgrades include state-of-the-art surveillance systems, improved security infrastructure, and road enhancements—benefiting both the Government House and the Prime Minister’s Private and Cabinet Office.
The initiative, he explained, is part of a long-term plan to enhance national security infrastructure and is not tailored to benefit any individual office holder.
“These upgrades are not for the personal benefit of the current Prime Minister but are a national investment in the security of future office bearers,” the statement clarified. The responsibility for such upgrades lies solely with the Government Security Office, managed by skilled security professionals.
Government’s announcement comes in response to recent misconceptions circulating in some media spaces. By setting the record straight, government continues to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and responsible governance.
This development highlights a significant win for the taxpayer—proving that critical national infrastructure can be improved through smart partnerships without placing a financial burden on the public.
