MBABANE – Government, through the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, has managed to collect E18 571 768.55 in three months.

This is according to the 2024/25 first quarter performance report of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The 2024/25 first quarter runs from April 2024 to June 2024 and the scholarship is collected through the Scholarship Recovery Consortium.

“The Pre-Service Tertiary Education and Training Unit (Scholarship Unit) in collaboration with the Scholarship Recovery Consortium, collections under the first quarter amounted to a total of E18 571 768.55,” states part of the report.

Concerning allowances, the Ministry stated that it had now resorted to giving allowances according to operations of each of the country’s tertiary institutions. The reason for that was the fact that the academic year of the tertiary institutions, which was almost uniform throughout the country, was disrupted by incidents such as COVID-19 and the political unrest.

“Currently, individual institutions follow academic calendars unique to each of them according to their operations and needs at the time. This has resulted in the payment of student allowances to be scheduled according to the calendars of each institution hence some students may be paid allowances while others are not paid depending on eligibility. Student allowances are paid over a 10 month period making an academic year,” states the report.
