MBABANE– The Government of Eswatini, through the Ministry of Education and Training, has received classroom blocks and school feeding kitchens worth E51.4 million from the United States Government, benefiting more than 1 500 learners in the Hhohho and Shiselweni regions.
The infrastructure projects, funded through the United States’ Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster and Civic Aid (OHDACA) programme, were officially handed over to the Ministry of Education and Training during a ceremony attended by senior government officials and development partners.
Receiving the facilities, Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo described the investment as a significant contribution towards improving the quality of education and creating a conducive learning environment for learners across the country.
“This is not just an investment in brick and mortar; it is a life-changing investment in the human capital and sustainable prosperity of the Kingdom of Eswatini,” said the minister.
The projects, valued at more than US$3.15 million (about E51.4 million), have benefited four primary schools, namely Etjedze Primary School, Makhonza Primary School, KaMzila Primary School and Ejubukweni Primary School. The upgraded facilities include modern classrooms and school feeding kitchens designed to enhance both teaching and learning conditions.
The minister said the investment would directly benefit more than 1,500 learners while also improving working conditions for teachers and supporting surrounding communities.
Prior to the handover ceremony, Nxumalo conducted a tour of schools in the Shiselweni Region to assess the completed projects and witness the impact of the new infrastructure. He was accompanied by Principal Secretary Nanikie Mnisi, officials from the Regional Education Office and other senior government representatives.
The Ministry of Education and Training said the new facilities would help provide safe, inclusive and dignified learning spaces for learners while contributing to improved educational outcomes.
Government further expressed its appreciation to the people and Government of the United States for their continued partnership and support towards the development of education in Eswatini.
