MAGUBHELENI – A wave of joy swept through the community of Magubheleni in the Shiselweni Region as residents celebrated a life-changing development on World Water Day 2025—the official launch of the Magubheleni Water and Sanitation Project.
With smiles, songs, and unity, the people of Mashobeni South, Mgazini, and Mlindazwe chiefdoms witnessed the opening of a project that brings clean, safe water directly to their doorsteps for the first time. More than 600 households now stand to benefit from this government-funded initiative, worth E4.3 million, implemented by the Shiselweni Rural Water Supply Branch in collaboration with the community.
The project marks a major stride in Eswatini’s journey towards Sustainable Development Goal No. 6—clean water and sanitation for all. It also aligns with the Nkwe initiative under His Majesty’s Government, which prioritises access to basic services across all corners of the Kingdom.
This year’s World Water Day theme, “Glacier Preservation,” echoes a global call to action to protect the planet’s vanishing glaciers—nature’s frozen reservoirs that hold 70% of the world’s freshwater. While Eswatini does not have glaciers of its own, the country proudly joins the world in preserving water ecosystems and addressing the broader impact of climate change.
“Water is life. Today, Magubheleni is proof that progress flows where there is unity, commitment, and vision,” said a representative from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy.
With every drop now flowing from taps in Magubheleni, the future looks brighter, healthier, and more hopeful for generations to come.
