EZULWINI – When most revellers might have been thinking about calling it a night, Mawhoo was only getting started, turning Mdzimba View Shisanyama into a sea of singing, dancing and high-energy celebration at around 2am on Saturday morning.
The South African star was the headline act at The Richmondalisa Live Eswatini, where she treated a lively crowd to some of her popular songs, including Imali, Gucci, Distance, Uzizwa Kanjani and Ngilimele.
For fans, the performance was more than a late-night set. It was also an opportunity to hear Mawhoo perform “Distance” live in Eswatini for the first time, adding a fresh moment to an already energetic show. The song is part of the Zulu Queens project involving Mawhoo and Lwah Ndlunkulu, with Distance featuring Lwah Ndlunkulu and Feza.
As the opening beats dropped, the crowd quickly found its voice, singing along to almost every lyric while dancing throughout the performance.
Mawhoo moved through her catalogue with ease, keeping the energy high despite the early-morning hour. Imali and Gucci had fans singing back at the stage, while Uzizwa Kanjani and Ngilimele kept the crowd moving.
The newly introduced Distance provided a different moment as fans embraced the song live, giving the South African vocalist a chance to connect with her Eswatini audience through her latest musical chapter.
After her performance, Mawhoo spoke about the reception she continues to receive whenever she visits the Kingdom.
“Hello guys, my name is Mawhoo. I am here at Mdzimba View Shisanyama. I just finished performing and every time I come to Eswatini everyone is happy and the crowd is amazing.”
She added that her visits have also allowed her to meet people who leave a lasting impression.
“I’m always meeting beautiful souls whenever I come to perform in Eswatini. Yeah, I’m really happy.”
The night also highlighted local talent, with Gifted Kosie taking the stage as part of the entertainment line-up. Following Mawhoo’s headline performance, Kosie kept the momentum going with energetic dance moves, ensuring that the party did not lose its rhythm.
Mdzimba View Shisanyama hosted the event, which featured Mawhoo alongside Zulu D, Young Zesh, Sgitha, Gifted Kosie, President, N Kay & Smally, Maradona, Baybash, Virus, Dualforce and resident DJs, with Sintour as host.
For Mawhoo, however, the biggest takeaway from the early-morning performance appeared to be the connection with her audience.
And as the crowd sang every word back to her at 2am, Eswatini made its message clear: the night may have been deep, but the energy was nowhere near finished.
