‘ISITHA’ ACTRESS AMONG HOSTS FOR ‘SHINE’ TALENT SEARCH

Big Bend – Local actress Hloniphile Sihlongonyane, who plays a role on ETV soapy ‘Isitha The enemy,’ was one of the hosts at a talent search held at J Gamula Community Hall, Big Bend (July 10, 2024).

When reached for comment, Sihlongonyane shared with this publication that she hosted the event alongside Sibusiso Gwebu.

For the learners of Gamula Community School, the introduction of the ‘Shine’ talent show was a thrilling prospect. Filled with excitement, the learners eagerly participated in various categories such as dance, music, drama, poetry, and fine art.

Event organiser and founder of the talent search, Siyabonga Gwebu expressed his excitement and said, “I loved seeing the success of the event and the stunning talents that were exposed. Indeed, it was dreams come true, as my dream is to discover more young talent and polish it to shine. Seeing the learner’s active in the arts within the school and outside is what makes me happy as an artist and a professional teacher as well. That’s what education wants from teachers.”

When asked if they were going to help the pupils further their skills or nurture them, Sihlongonyane gave positive reviews. “We are to help connect them with people who are in the category that they have come on top in,” she said.

The talent show at was a great success, with numerous prizes up for grabs. Their hard work was rewarded with medals, certificates, and trophies, making for a memorable day. The fierce competition saw two drama groups, five dance groups, four musicians, four poets, and four fine artists all aiming for the top spot.

Gwebu expressed his sincere appreciation to those who made the event a resounding success. His gratitude was directed towards the school’s administration, teachers, the Headman of Gamula Umphakatsi (Bucopho), guest artists who served as judges, and the enthusiastic learners who participated in the talent showcase.

The talent search is set to visit other schools, as Gwebu said they want to introduce an arts club for schools and compete against each other in the art category.
