MBABANE – The Lubombo Marathon is poised to be bigger and better, as additional sponsors have come on board to financially support the second-best marathon in the country.
The latest sponsors include KEV Logistics and Distribution, which specialises in sports drinks, as well as the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA). These sponsors were unveiled on Wednesday during a press conference held at the EOCGA offices in Lobamba.
KEV Logistics and Distribution will supply sports drinks for approximately 1,000 runners, valued at E12 000. The athletes will receive their sports drinks under the Oshee brand at the finishing point.
The EOCGA has also sponsored the event by providing water point, as announced by the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Maxwell Jele, during the same press conference.
Other sponsors for the event include various local businesses committed to promoting athletics in Eswatini.
The Lubombo Marathon is scheduled to take place on April 5, 2025, at Siteki Sports Ground and is hosted by TZD Sports.
Registration remains open for athletes, with fees set at E200 for the 42.2km and E21.1km events, while the 10km event costs E160. All events will commence at 6am.
Registration is available at Fitness Zone (Manzini), Siteki Hotel (Siteki), the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) in Mbabane, and at the EOCGA office in Lobamba.
ESRC Chief Executive Officer Darius Dlomo expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their contributions to the success of the event. He noted that this aligns with the government’s vision of fostering a healthy nation and urged runners and walkers to participate in large numbers for their own health benefits.
Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini expressed enthusiasm about the interest shown by international athletes in participating in the fourth edition of the event. He stated that they are looking forward to an increase in registrations for the marathon.
